Discovering the delightfully unexpected

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. And color has become a special object of affection the last few weeks due to its scarcity.

Toronto had its grayest, foggiest December this winter. And so far January is continuing the trend, with the promise that this is likely the pattern for the whole winter. A rare sunshine day yesterday was actually newsworthy!

I've made it a game on my walks to notice the colors that are around: different shades of muted green, grey, brown. There is variety, but all very muted. You really need to look to see!

And then this afternoon I came across this delightful little installation of painted stones on my walk. What a lovely splash of color in the gray! Thank you to whoever made this.
